Safety at PostBus

Our passengers’ safety is paramount. That’s why PostBus has implemented measures at various levels to ensure that we can serve you with the best possible safety standards. Postbuses operate on almost 1,000 routes in normal, everyday road traffic throughout Switzerland and are therefore in particularly high demand.

Vehicles

Postbuses are well maintained. We service our vehicles in line with the latest technical standards. Each vehicle undergoes a comprehensive safety check at the start of operations every day. Every month, each vehicle is subjected to a more detailed test. From the end of 2026, there will also be an extensive weekly check carried out by a specialist team.

We procure vehicle types that are tailored to the area of operation, which increases safety. In winter, sufficient snow chains are available for postbuses.

In the event of an incident, clearly marked emergency exits and safety hammers for breaking the windows are available on board.

Driving staff

The safety of our passengers is PostAuto’s absolute top priority. Our drivers carry a key responsibility: they ensure not only reliable transport, but also the safest possible environment during the journey. To perform this task competently, our drivers complete comprehensive initial training and regular refresher training. This includes specific courses in fire protection, evacuation procedures, and de-escalation when dealing with aggressive individuals. This ensures our driving staff act with care, confidence, and professionalism in every situation.

Our drivers’ fitness to drive is continuously trained and monitored. Driving and safety training helps to identify risks early and prevent accidents. This is complemented by prevention campaigns that continually strengthen safety awareness.

Seats and handrails are checked for proper function during the daily safety check.

On heavily used routes and on night services, the passenger compartment is protected by video surveillance. The recordings help with incident analysis and can also have a preventive effect. Postbuses equipped with video systems are marked with a pictogram.

On routes where verbal and physical assaults occur more frequently, PostAuto deploys security personnel on a selective basis.

Bus stops

Almost all bus stops are owned by the respective municipality. The municipality is also responsible for the level of development (shelters, accessibility compliance, etc.) and maintenance.

The bus stop sign is provided by PostAuto and contains all the information you need for your journey. Via the  QR code above the departure times, you can access real-time information on the next departures and any delays.

Certain bus stops in locations with limited visibility are equipped with a light so that driving staff can see waiting passengers more clearly in low-light conditions.
